We’re based in a seaside town, and a lot of our passing trade is made up of surfers and their long-suffering wives and girlfriends who, if they’re not up for a brisk dip in our icy waters, are affectionately known as surf-bunnies.

Sometimes the best things are the most straightforward. This apple cake goes down equally well at home with a cup of tea, or served as a wholesome dessert at the restaurant, with a splodge of crème fraiche and a dusting of cinnamon icing sugar.
